Tribunal mediates settlement in workplace harassment claim

An employment claims tribunal facilitated a mediated settlement between a former employee and a logistics firm.

Both parties agreed to confidential terms after several mediation sessions. The tribunal recorded the matter as resolved without admission of liability.

Labour groups said the case underscored the value of early mediation for disputes that might otherwise require lengthy hearings.

The former employee had claimed unpaid overtime and wrongful termination after a restructuring exercise last year. The logistics firm maintained that role changes followed contractual terms and that compensation had been offered during exit negotiations.

Mediation sessions held over six weeks allowed both parties to review payroll records and internal communications without the publicity of an open tribunal hearing. The mediator noted that confidentiality helped preserve working relationships among remaining staff.

The Ministry of Manpower encourages employers and workers to consider mediation through the Tripartite Alliance for Dispute Management before filing formal claims, particularly where documentation gaps could prolong proceedings.
