HDB announces staggered lift maintenance across older blocks

Public housing blocks in Singapore

The Housing and Development Board said lift maintenance at selected older estates will take place on a staggered schedule over the next six weeks.

Residents will receive notices at lift lobbies at least 48 hours before work begins. Temporary shuttle services will be offered at blocks with single-lift access.

Town councils reminded households to plan ahead for deliveries and to assist elderly neighbours who may need help using stairs during short outages.

The maintenance programme targets blocks built before 1995 where lift systems have reached the midpoint of their operational lifespan. Contractors will replace worn cables, upgrade motor controllers, and test emergency communication panels during each scheduled visit.

HDB said most work will be carried out between 9am and 5pm on weekdays to minimise disruption to residents returning from work. Evening maintenance may occur at selected sites where daytime access is limited by heavy foot traffic.

Residents who require permanent mobility assistance can register with their town council for priority notification and, where available, temporary access to ground-floor facilities during extended outages.
